At the center of the captivating rolling meadows, resided a boy named Shepherd. His life was untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was mainly to care for his herd of sheep.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the wind through the single tree on the peak were his constant co-dwellers. Day in day, looking out for his responsibilities inculcated in him a notion of tranquil contentment.
Yet, there were occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. On one such day because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a naughty plot.
Narratives of predators prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.
One morning he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but found no wolf.
The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This game continued for a few days more. Yet, one morning, a real wolf actually charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back check here to the village only to receive a lesson on honesty and the results of dishonesty.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
